How to Clean Makeup Brushes?

2024-12-29

How to wash makeup brushes? This is a problem that many makeup lovers often face. As an important tool for makeup, makeup brushes often need to come into contact with the skin. Keeping them clean and hygienic not only helps to improve the effect of makeup, but also ensures the safety of the skin.

1. Understand the material

Before cleaning makeup brushes, you first need to understand the material of makeup brushes. At present, the common makeup brushes on the market are mainly divided into animal hair and artificial fiber. Animal hair brushes are soft and have strong powder-grabbing power, which are suitable for powdery cosmetics; while artificial fiber brushes are more durable and easy to clean, suitable for liquid or paste cosmetics.

2. Prepare cleaning tools

To clean makeup brushes, you need to prepare some basic tools, including cleaning agents, warm water, containers and towels. It is recommended to choose a mild shampoo for the cleaning agent, or it is better to use a special makeup brush cleaning agent. Be sure to avoid using a cleaning agent that is too alkaline, otherwise it will damage the bristles, which will not be worth the loss. In addition, you need to prepare a clean container and towel to hold and wipe the cleaned makeup brushes.

3. Cleaning steps

Soak: Pour the cleaning agent into the container and add an appropriate amount of warm water to dilute it. Then soak the brush head in the cleaning agent. Be careful not to let the metal part come into contact with water, otherwise it may rust. The soaking time of the brush head should not be too long, usually a few minutes.

Kneading and washing: Pick up the soaked makeup brush and gently rub it in the palm of your hand to let the bristles fully absorb the cleaning agent. Be careful not to use too much force, the bristles may fall off or deform. If you see some places with heavy stains, rub and wash repeatedly until they are clean.

Rinse: Rinse the makeup brush under running warm water. If the water flow is too large, it will disperse the bristles, so a smaller flow will be fine. When flushing, use your fingers to gently comb the bristles to maintain their original shape and fluffiness.

Squeeze: Gently wrap the rinsed makeup brush with a towel, and gently squeeze out the excess water with your palm. Never wring it hard or expose it to the sun.

Drying: Lay the squeezed makeup brush flat in a ventilated place to dry naturally. Many people will turn the bristles upside down or hang them to dry at this time, but this will actually cause the bristles to spread or deform. At the same time, do not expose it to direct sunlight or high temperature drying, which will affect the service life.

4. Cleaning frequency and maintenance suggestions

Cleaning frequency: Generally speaking, if you have the habit of wearing makeup, it is enough to clean it once a week, and it is not necessary to wash it too frequently. In a set of makeup brushes, the brushes that are used more frequently, such as foundation brushes, eye shadow brushes, etc., can be cleaned more frequently; other brushes that are used less frequently, such as blush brushes and highlighter brushes, can be cleaned less frequently.

Maintenance suggestions: In addition to regular cleaning, some maintenance measures can also be taken to extend the service life of makeup brushes. For example, before use, you can gently wipe the bristles with a paper towel to remove excess powder; after use, you can gently shake off the brush to remove residue; when storing, you can place the brush flat or upside down in a ventilated and dry place to avoid deformation and mold.
